Galle

Galle is a vibrant city located on the southwestern coast of Sri Lanka, approximately a two-hour drive from Colombo. A key attraction is the 17th-century Galle Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage Site renowned for being one of Asia’s finest examples of colonial architecture and one of the few remaining living forts globally. Visitors can spend the day wandering through its historic streets and charming buildings, which include churches, museums, and merchant houses. Many of these structures have been beautifully restored and now feature trendy shops, fusion restaurants, and cafes. The fort also provides breathtaking views of the Indian Ocean and the adjacent harbor, offering insights into Sri Lanka’s rich cultural and colonial past.

Venturing further inland, one can discover a rural village atmosphere that is ideal for exploration by bicycle, allowing for an immersion in the local lifestyle. Galle is bustling with activities during the day, offering a variety of experiences such as learning to craft a traditional Sri Lankan devil mask, surfing, engaging in a captivating photography walk, participating in a local cooking class, or teaching children how to make kites. With Sri Lanka producing 95% of the world’s most authentic cinnamon, visitors should not miss the opportunity to gain a comprehensive and hands-on understanding of cinnamon and its historical significance.

The coastline of Galle is adorned with beautiful beaches and swimming spots, and within a short 25-minute journey, one can enjoy a day at stunning locations such as Jungle Beach, Unnawatuna Beach, Hikkaduwa Beach, and Thalpe Beach.
