Udawalawa National Park

Udawalawe National Park is a popular wildlife destination with over 500 wild elephants and a diverse ecosystem. Established in 1972, it serves as a sanctuary for wildlife displaced by the Udawalawe Reservoir. The park features over 30,000 hectares of grasslands, marshes, and riverine forests, with the Udawalawe Reservoir providing water for the wildlife. Open-top jeeps offer a serene wildlife experience, with early morning and late afternoon being the best times for sightings. Accessible by car or bus, it is often visited en route to other attractions
